California, which accounts for over 90% of total U.S. wine production, had 2001 wine sales estimated at 450 million gallons. California has approximately 847 operating wineries and an estimated 570,000 acres of wine grapes.

Bran+Luebbe metering pumps carefully dispense minor additives. Bran+Luebbe multi-pump systems are used for blending different years product into non-vintage sparkling wine.
Flowserve pumps, including Durco, Worthington, Ingersoll Dresser and many other brands are used in all types of fluid transfer.
Flowserve mechanical seals are used on almost every type of rotating equipment. Mechanical seals require less maintenance, and are more cost effective than packing.
Innomag manufactures sealless, non-metallic, magnetically driven pumps. Their innovative TB-mag series revolutionized the non-metallic, mag-drive pumping industry as the first fully thrust-balanced pump with the ability to handle solids. No longer do you need perfectly clean liquids to use a mag-drive pump. When applied correctly, an Innomag pump can make a real difference for your environment, maintenance staff and operators alike.
Lightnin mixers are used by wineries on many processes, from blending, to dissolving powders for filtration, to eliminating thermal stratification. Side entry mixers are becoming more common on the largest tanks to minimize non-pumpable solid residue.
Quadro Quadro engineering manufactures and markets an innovative line of mixers, emulsifiers, powder dispersion units, shear pumps and high shear wet mills for the Food, Pharmaceutical, Cosmetic/Personal Care and Fine Chemical Industries. Quadro Ytron® products are sanitary, stainless steel batch and continuous/inline mixers for powder wetting, powder incorporation, powder dissolving, high shear mixing, solids deagglomeration, solids suspension, dispersion, emulsification and liquid blending.
SEEPEX Logo

Engineered to handle mash, must, lees, pomace, pump-over, yeast, whole grapes and other viscous materials, SEEPEX progressive cavity pumps excel in a variety of wine production processes. Replacing centrifugal and rotary lobe pumps with SEEPEX progressive cavity pumps improves operations throughout the entire wine making process including:

  • Must Transfer
  • Stem, Skin, Lees & Sediment Waste
  • Filtering & Bottling
  • Additive Dosing

SEEPEX progressive cavity pumps are positive displacement pumps that minimize shearing & agitation and limit oxidization, all critical winery requirements. They are self-priming, have adjustable flow rates, and are tolerant of sediment and solids, giving them the ability to efficiently handle waste products.

A Madera winery increased its drain yield 25% while reducing press fraction solids 6-8%. By switching to progressive cavity technology, they eliminated 100% of all downtime related to pump cavitation.

A Napa winery replaced their rotary lobe pumps with SEEPEX open hopper progressive cavity pumps and improved must transfer 25%. As a result, they successfully reduced grape unloading time by 2-3 hours per day, per truck.

To see a diagram for where to use SEEPEX progressive cavity technology throughout the entire wine making process, please visit SEEPEX in our Products & Services section.

Sundyne Logo Sunflo pumps are used as a reliable wash-down pump, high pressure with a simple, quality design.
Tranter logo Tranter heat exchangers are used for all types of processes in wineries. Any liquid that needs to be heated, or cooled, (including steam) will require some type of heat exchange. Tranter manufactures plate and frame as well as platecoil style heat exchangers.
Waukesha has two types of sanitary pumps that are very popular with winemakers. Rotary lobe pumps are used for the thickest products, while centrifugal pumps are used for more viscous liquids.
