Vacuum pump efficiency is critical to operational performance and production. Silencer-Separators are designed to maximize vacuum pump efficiencies by separating a mixture of high temperature, high velocity, gases and water, discharged from the vacuum pump, so that water can be recycled and gases can be safely vented. At the same time separation is occurring, the silencing function reduces discharge noise to safe levels.
Carbon Steel discharge silencers/separators become maintenance problems due to corrosion caused by harsh liquid ring vacuum pump operating conditions. Many customers purchase carbon steel silencers/separators because they are more economical than stainless steel. Unfortunately, carbon steel corrodes. Failure of internal carbon steel components allows water to enter the gas or air discharge, creating corrosive, slippery and unsafe working areas around the vacuum pump system.
Failure of internal components also creates excessive back pressure on the vacuum pump resulting in increased brake HP and higher electrical costs to operate the system. These higher costs can be thousands of dollars annually.
Monarch’s solution to this problem is silencers constructed of Chevron CP Chem™ high density polyethylene material, HDPE, with 1% carbon black. This design creates an easy to install silencer/separator with excellent UV protection that costs the same as carbon steel and roughly 50% less than stainless steel, but is corrosion free and has the durability of stainless steel.
